It is a beautiful day here in California. It is a blessing to be a father and I hope that every father enjoys their day today. Happy Father's Day, the end!

A New Change for The Green Pea

Well, I have been very busy selling my treasures for the last 5 months, trying to make some room for a few friends that will be renting booths in the Pea. I am really looking forward to having some real fun and a little more time off. This week we are adding some more lighting. My computer program has arrived and I will be learning how to use it! Oh, goody! Hopefully, it will make the bookkeeping easy. I have 27 people on the waiting list. I am going to start off with the larger booths first and as my things clear out, I will add some smaller spaces.

I am so happy to have sold this rustic, hand made piece above (lesson learned). I sold it three times. It was so big that it did not fit in two of the houses. After I sold it the third time, I asked the couple if it looked nice in their home. They said, it was in storage because they were remodeling their home....I sure hope it fits in when they are finished remodeling.



How do you like the color of this old cream can? It sure does POP!



These old doors with their wavy glass, are going to be used on the wall at the head of the bed. The doors were a pretty old shabby blue and they had all their original hardware on them. The old hinges were a shell shape. I think it is a great idea.

Handmade Boy Nursery

My mom wanted me to share my baby boy nursery with you. We are due July 15, and here in hot Texas, that date cannot come soon enough!

This is what my room looked like back in January:




My goal was to transform this room into a sophisticated "Out of Africa" room, with new paint, drapes, and papier mache animal trophy heads.

After pinning lots of samples all over my walls, I bought up over 45 yards of fabric and supplies from the Dallas Fabric District, to make lined drapes, a crib skirt, bumpers, and pillow for my rocking chair.



I did some late-night sewing with my little helper.


And during the day I worked on my papier mache trophy heads. Here I am making the plaque and attaching the light framework to build the newspaper off of:

Once the heads were papier mache-d, I painted them with oils and stained their plaques.

The vintage binoculars were gifted to me from my mom a couple of years ago and came from her store. One pair even came with its original case and had "Paris" stamped on it. I know Mom had a hard time parting with these then, but I think now she's pretty tickled to see them featured in her new grandson's room.



Mom gave me the cool pith helmet at the same time. It had belonged to one of our neighbors and so it carries a bit of sentiment. The old picture frames I picked up at a local antique mall, and I just primed and painted over their gold gaudiness.



I'm using an old chest of drawers as my changing table, and I tossed a mirror over it to reflect light from the windows into the room. Both of these items I also picked up from my local antique mall.



Before I stitched my bumpers together, I had one side of the panels printed with a Bible verse that goes around the inside of the crib.

¹¹ “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ¹² Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”

Industrial Locker

Some time ago I found two industrial lockers. My husband made a stand for them, from old vintage wood. They now are a pair of side tables, with some nice storage.
You do not have to worry about putting drinks on the top, because it is metal and very durable. I say, ( "worry free for the man in your life").


These old locker side tables would be nice used on the patio too!

Mr Darcy

Mr Darcy, is a big boy this year. Last year I bought him and he was just a little guy.
He is not a father yet. His wife will not lay on her eggs. She has 20 eggs and will not sit on them. I am not sure what I can do about that.



This hen was just a little chick last year. She is a very protective mom, just ask my dog Barney. Barney, has been chased a few times already.


Mr Darcy, keeping his eye on the hen and chicks. Their rooster day is no longer around (sad story).


Here is Miss Fiona, from Sweet Cottage Dreams. She came in to see how Barney was doing. Barney is one of her sweethearts, he thinks she is soooo pretty.

Old Iron Milk Cart

Can you see this cart on your patio, with some beautiful plants on it? I can, I wanted to keep it for myself. I always love the things that I buy. It makes it harder to sell them when I want them for myself...... It was in the store three days. I sold it!



The wood that I used for the bottom, came from an old church basement staircase. The church was built in the 40's. The wood was old, worn, distressed and a great color. Don't you just love the color?


I might mention that the cart had been parked in a barn for many, many years under a bird perch.... you know what I mean? It was hard to find any metal that the birds hadn't found first!!!


It is finished and beautiful. I really love this piece. Because we lived and had a dairy for many years. My heart still loves anything that is dairy related.



This if the before photo after I washed and sanded it down. I think you need to have a little vision, of what this might become. I was fortunate to have the old wooden stairs on hand. You know, sometimes hubby looks at me, like what have you brought home now! He is starting to understand and come around to my visions! That is half of my battle.
